This week in Matilda's Garden
Rosehips, pumpkins and no walnuts
Soaking up the sun we went for a walk along the hedgerows trying to collect the remaining walnuts, but the squirrels and crows beat us, found a meagre 8 nuts from 2 huge trees, must be quicker next year.
Lots of beautiful rosehips however, which I turned into jelly, the four glasses of blackberry jelly from a few weeks ago are gone already. Must clean out the shed.

Dahlias, Fennel, Euphorbia Oblongata, Last Cosmos and a few Carrots

Been avoiding the garden for a few weeks apart from a quick daily evening dash out to do the parsley challenge, which I optimistically planted right at the top of the garden. Yesterday however was beautiful jumper weather so I tackled some of the finished beds- annuals and weeds out and fresh compost on top, a worm job for the winter.

Dahlias (orange, white and purple), Cosmos, Euphorbia Oblongata, Sunflowers, Statice and Ivy
I nibble on wild oregano and rocket on a late afternoon inspection tour of the garden. In the space of a week we went from t-shirts, coffees and lunch on a bench outside, to jackets, some scarfs and hot chocolates for the girls. For the first time in weeks I check the ready compost, which had been occupied by a couple of butternut squashes and start to spread it out over freshly cleared beds.
Not much of a hurry now really, done the Autumn sowings during September. I slowly give in with the deadheading of the Cosmos and play mental games of which plants I would take if I had to leave the garden within a day, which is a good indicator for all sorts of things, not least planting plans for the following season. Apart from that- clearing, digging in compost, digging over the new piles and harvesting from the Autumn veg bed.
